Show Inside Out, 74 After my shower, I got dressed in the closet. I brought my backpack downstairs with me so that I could head out for the library right after breakfast. Dad and Leslie were already showered and dressed, and were moving around the kitchen packing a cooler. "Oh, hi, Andli!" said Leslie, all cheery. She was a morning person, of course. Paul waved a sticky fork at me. "Andli! We get to go on a ex-exca-" "Escapade," said Dad. "Escapade!" said Paul. "What?" I said. Dad turned to me. "We're taking a field-trip. A hiatus. An escapade. We're all going on a day-trip to Logan to see Leslie's parents." "And the cheese factory!" Paul yelled. "And the cheese factory," said Dad, turning back to the sandwiches he was making. "Look at that sun out there. Can you believe it's November? A perfect day for a drive." Leslie belted out in a huge, joking vibrato, "Oh, what a beayoooooootiful moooooorning!" Paul giggled. I opened a new box of pop-tarts. "And you'll be gone all day?" I asked. Dad stopped and turned to me again. "No," he said slowly, "We 7/be gone all day. You're coming with us, of course." Oh, no. My hand froze. I had to get to the library today. OK, act cool. Nonchalant. |
