Show Inside Out, 107 So, over lunch I went to the media center and found the old yearbooks, thinking maybe I could learn something from Terra's entry. Weird! The index said that last year Terra Gates was involved in the literary magazine and the Honor Society! Literary magazine as a sophomore? I could hardly believe it was the same person as the antisocial girl who walked around glowering at everybody, practically slinking down the halls in her dark clothes. Something big must have changed for her. Was it all because Joseph had died? I turned to the "In Memoriam" page. There he was. Joseph C. Gates. He had been a senior last year. He died in April. Only seven months ago. They had used his Senior graduation picture, probably taken the summer before that school year had started. I stared at the picture for a long time. Joseph was one of the most handsome guys I had ever seen. He had curly black hair. His dark eyes snapped with mischievous humor, but he looked thoughtful, too. His lashes were long and thick. What had happened to him? How had he died? And was his death what had caused Terra to change so much? Of course I headed to the library after school. There were three e-mails from Joseph. From: Joseph <desertsageJoseph@yahco.com> To: Andli <Charcoalchic@vahoo.com> Dear Andli, That stuff doesnt matter. It really doesnt Just help Terra, OK? |
