Show 1 Inside Out, 102 "No . . . " "You won't be able to do it on your own. I'll help you." She led her father to the kitchen. He examined Atticus while she held him. Atticus began crying again, sensing what was coming. "Bring him to the sink." Together she and her dad cleaned the wounds. Atticus struggled and growled, but Terra held him tightly in a towel. Dad got some scissors and trimmed the fur around the bites. "There's no use bandaging them," he said. "He'll just bite off the bandages." "Does he need to go to the vet?" "I'm not sure. Maybe not. But he should stay in for a while so that those wounds will stay clean." "Dad, don't tell Mom. She'll make me get rid of him if he's making trouble." Her father put his hand on Terra's cheek. "It's our secret." He paused, then said, "But Terra, don't blame your Mom for being tough about Atticus. She has so much on her mind, and she works so hard. I think she just can't cope with the thought of one more thing to take care of. She doesn't mean to be cold; she's just reached her limit." "I know," Terra said. "Goodnight," he said, turning back to the couch. Terra took Atticus into her room. He wouldn't sleep with her, but went to a far corner to lick his wounds. |
