Show Inside Out, 227 of the friends pulled out a gun and shot two of the kids. Officers have the names of the suspects and expect to have them in custody soon. "That was your party," Dad said, his voice shaking. "Not my party, Dad. I had to get Terra away from it." Dad sank to the couch. "But that was the party, right? They're talking about that party?" "Yes." I saw that he had tears in his eyes. "Thank God, Andli. Thank God you weren't there." I sat down next to him, leaned over onto his shoulder, and burst into tears. An hour later, while Dad and Leslie were gone looking for a store that was open on Thanksgiving because they had forgotten to buy potatoes and Leslie wouldn't use the potato pearls ('Thanksgiving is not Thanksgiving without real potatoes!"), the doorbell rang. It was Terra. She stood shivering on the porch, her arms wrapped around a bundle of blanket. "Hi," I said. "Did you read the paper?" "No," she said. "What is it?" "Come in." She stepped in and I heard a tiny cry coming from the bundle. "What's that?" I asked. Terra looked shy. "I was thinking about Paul. You told me he was having a hard time making friends." She set the bundle down and crouched to unwrap it. Inside was a soft gray puff of a kitten, mewing. "Do you think he would like Atticus?" |
