Show Inside Out, 134 Notebook for Or. Scofield Here's one for you, Or. Scofield. How does a person tell what a friend is? Because it seems to me that no one around here knows what friendship should mean. There's the guys who said they were Joe's friends, but who didn't even come to the funeral. There's Joe's old church friends who did. And there's Martina and the others I've been hanging with. I like that they don't care so much about fancy clothes and stuff. I'm still really uncomfortable around the smoking and drugs, but I can't figure out yet if that is my churchy background speaking or if it's really how I feel deep down. I wish I could have them be my friends without all that other stuff. There's people like Sadie Beesinger andOenver Bingham who are "popular." That's supposed to mean that a lot of people like them, right? Or that they have a lot of friends? Or is it just that a lot of people know who they are? It seems like people like that have a lot of people smile at them but that doesn 't mean they have real friends. I can't tell for sure but it seems like most of the people in that crowd are awfully shallow. |
