"Hey," he said. "Hey," I said. "I only have a second," he said. "But I was wondering if we could hang out together"-he paused, and my heart skipped a beat-"at the library, tomorrow after school." "Oh! Well, yeah, probably I could do that," I said. Denver and me at the library? Why? Did he actually want to hang with me? Was this a date? "Maybe we can get started on our research papers," he said. Oh. Maybe he just wanted help. No, maybe he wanted me to do it for him. But maybe not. Probably not. People study together all the time. It doesn't mean they are cheating. And he had other friends he could hang with at a library. But he was choosing me. I should quit being so paranoid. "Sure," I said. After we got off the phone, I painted for a while. I felt pretty excited about having a date with Denver. But when I was in bed, I couldn't quit thinking about Terra. |
