Show Inside Out 226 I slept late the next morning. I could hear Dad and Leslie in the kitchen cooking together. Dad must have been as tired as I was but he still had to get up and help entertain Bill and Emma. I rolled out of bed and my eyes caught my computer. Joseph. Well, he could only be pleased with how things had gone last night, right? But I'd have to wait until tomorrow, when the library was open, to find out what he thought. Leslie made strawberry crepes for breakfast. I was just finishing up my fourth when Leslie said, "Hey, Andli, do you want to shop the sales with me tomorrow?" "You're really going to get up at 3:00 in the morning just to save a little money?" Dad asked. "It's not just a little money," she answered. "You wouldn't believe the good deals you can get if you don't mind going out while it's still dark and waiting in a few lines. Here, I'll prove it. Where's the newspaper?" Dad stepped out onto the porch and came back in. He pulled the huge paper out of its bag and dumped it on the kitchen table. Then he froze, staring down at the front page. I watched his face drain of color. "Andli-" he said, and his voice was a croak. "What is it?" I cried, leaping over to his side to peer down at the paper. Drug shooting kills one, leaves one critically wounded said the headline. I skimmed down the article, my throat slowly tightening. Salt Lake CHy. One teenager was shot and another wounded in a shooting at a home in the Murray area. Authorities believe the shooting to be drug-related. Apparently, a teenager who lives at the home was hosting a party. According to witnesses, an uninvited guest who was also a drug dealer came to the home with two friends during the party. A disagreement erupted and one |
