Show Inside Out, 217 Chapter 41: Andli "I think you should leave," Terra said to Denver, but her voice didn't sound as confident as her words. Her words did get the attention of Denver's friends, however. They shifted a little, watching her closely, and I got the feeling that they were tensing up like tigers about to pounce. Denver was all syrup. "C'mon, Terra. Simon invited me. And my friends here." Terra shrugged and looked out at his henchmen. "Figures," she said. "We were just leaving. C'mon, Andli." She squeezed past the guys on the porch and headed across the yard without looking back at me. She didn't stop or turn to me until she was halfway down the cul-de-sac. Then she slowed her pace so that I could come up next to her. "No good hanging around that place if those guys are there," she said. "What was Denver Bingham doing there?" I asked. Terra turned to me with a small smile. "Surprised to see him hanging around with us mopey types, eh?" she asked. When I didn't answer quickly, she continued, "Well, I don't blame you. At school he keeps away from anyone who doesn't dress in Hilfiger. And he's really never hung around with us. Tm sure his visit was purely business." "Business?" I asked. "Duh, Andli," she said. "He's a dealer." Thunk. My heart hit my toes with a sickening thud. "A drug dealer?" I asked. |
