Show Inside Out, 21 I hated hearing her pester him about it He looked really tired all the time, probably from working so much. Then suddenly Mom announced that she was going to fly back to Mexico, where most of her family still lives. Just out of the blue. She didn 't invite any of us to go with her. She was gone three days. When she got back, it seemed like she and Oad were always on each other's nerves. Then Oad wouldn 'tgo to church with us anymore. Joe said he wasn 'tgoing to go if Oad wouldn 'tgo. Mom sighed a lot. She and I went to church without them. People at church asked about Oad and Joe, and I didn't know what to say about them. Some people acted like they felt sorry for us. I hate that. Sister Johnson didn't ask me about it. But she was extra-nice to me. I could tell that I was becoming her little project. But she was nice about it. Katy asked me straight out. "Why don't your dad and Joe come to church anymore?" I didn't want to talk about it. I was embarrassed that my family didn't sit together at church like Kdty's family, everyone all in a row. This |
