Show Inside Out, 114 Notebook for Or. Scofield Oad was out of town the night it happened. It was about 3:30 am. and the doorbell rang. Mom was already talking to the policeman when I came down, and then she left I can't believe she left, left me there alone. I guess she didn't want me to see it. But I think it was wrong of her. She called me from the hospital. She said he had been pretty much dead before the police even came to our house, though they were still working on him. But he was dead by the time she even got there. I was at home. I never even went to the hospital. Oad didn't hear about it until the morning, because Mom had a hard time reaching him. Luckily, Joe had been in the car alone. Luckily, he didn't hit anyone else, just the column under the overpass. Luckily. And that's all I know. Except that his new "friends" didn't come to the funeral. Joe used to be my best friend. |
