Show Inside Out, 10 "Hey, Chiquita," he said. "Don't call me that." "Ooh, hot and spicy today. I like that." His smile was so sleazy, as if he were looking at her naked. Terra shivered and turned to her locker. "I brought my motorcycle," he said. "Wanna take a spin at lunch with me?" "No." As if she'd care more about him because of his precious baby that he shined up in the parking lot every day instead of going to math. "Hey, Simon. Hey, Terra " "Hi, Martina," Terra said. She pointed to Martina's eyebrow. "Nice ring. Did it hurt?" "Not for long. You should get one sometime. Maybe in your nose, first." "In her navel," said Simon. "I could help." "In your dreams," said Martina. Then, to Terra, "Do you want to hang out after school?" "I can't," said Terra. "I've gotta work." She wondered what Martina and the others did after school. She was glad she had to work. She wasn't sure she was ready to hang with them outside of school. Why was she reluctant? It wasn't as if Mom would know. And so what if she did? It wasn't as if these were the same kids Joe had been hanging out with. But they looked the same. Mom would think they were the same. She would freak out. She hadn't commented on the fact that Terra never hung out with Katy anymore. But she would have a conniption if she saw these guys. |
