Show ( OPEN HOUSE FOR PARTNERS TEACHERS: On September 21 Rebecca Pickett held an . Orientation forPARTners program teachers from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Docents were encouraged to attend the open house and meet the teachers. Refreshments were served. The theme for the Fall Tours was the Elements of Art. WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS: "Middle Eastern Threads in Western Culture" was the theme for the workshop for teachers, students and anyone interested in the Middle East on October 15 and 16, 1999. Docents were invited to participate. EVENINGS FOR EDUCATORS: In connection with the Art of the Harvest exhibition, 8: free workshop focused on traditional Utah Art was provided to teachers. Keynote speaker was Dr. Robert Olpin, Professor of Art Histruy at the U. of U. The workshop was designed to prepare teachers to use art in the classroom for a variety of curriculum. The date of this presentation was October 27, 1999. A second workshop for teachers was held April 5, 2000 at the Salt Lake County Building. The focus of the evening was contemporary abstract Utah art. The inservice included workshops for teachers on how to teach using art in the classroom. Some of the artists highlighted were: Allen Bishop, Carolyn Ann Coalson, Lee Deffebach, John Hess, Cathy Pardike, Brad Taylor and Ron Zollinger. JULY FAMILY DAY: Under the direction of Heather Riggs, the second annual Family Day was held on July 17th. The event was based on architecture: The In's and Out's of Buildings. Among the activities were: chalk drawing in the loading dock area; designing architectural columns, facades and furniture; building sand castles; legos; architectural treasure hunt in the Museum; and an architectural tour of the campus. Entertainment was provided by pianist Marjorie Janove and her son Raphael on his violin. A giant cake was created in the shape of the new museum building. Docents assisting were: Karin Brown, Elaine Call, Anne Dolowitz, Pat Faulkner, Ruth Feeny, Ruth Kerr, Jean Moseley, Jan Miller, Pam Parrot, Gay Lyn Sylvies and Ann Stewart. DECEMBER FAMILY DAY: The Artful Afternoon held on December 18th was staged as a JAPANESE CELEBRATION. Activities included woodblock printing, origami, Japanese folding screens and games. Demonstrations of printmaking, calligraphy, flower arranging, the traditional tea ceremony, dollmaking, anp bonsai were given. Taiko drummers, traditional musicians and traditional dancers provided entertainment. Happi bags were given to all participants.
