Rebecca Campbell, Education Curator, Salt Lake Art Center Virginia Catherall, Associate Curator of Education, UMFA July 30, 1998 Reading Symbols in Medieval and Renaissance Art Helene Fairchild, Associate Docent UMFA August 6, 1998 Sharingffellingffalking about the Museum's Collection Docents - Hints, games, storytelling, etc. DOCENT WORKSHOP Team meetings were held on September 9, 10, and on September 16, 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 3 :00 p.m. Sack lunches were provided for the docents at each session. The first week was devoted to abstract and non-objective art. Ann Parker and Virginia Catherall were in charge. The second week of team meetings was devoted to the Asian exhibit, which included objects from China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. Bernadette Brown and Virginia Catherall coordinated the presentations. " DOCENT SEMINAR The annual Docent Seminar sessions were held January 9, 14, 21 and 18. At the first meeting an Overview of Asian Art , with an emphasis on Southeast Asia, was given by Dr. John Listopad, Assistant Curator of Asian Art at the Los Angeles County Museum. The second program, An Overview of Asian Religions, was presented by Dr. Peter Appleby, U of U Professor of Philosophy. The third class was a calligraphy workshop given by Yoko Kamaya, Docent in Training. The final meeting consisted of ideas on teaching Asian Art, presented by Kay Jones, Art Specialist, Whittier Elementary School. |
