Show UMFA DOCENT IDSTORY, 1999 - 2000 Steering Committee meetings were held at 9:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month through March. In an effort to better accommodate the Committee members, the meeting day was changed to the last Friday of the month, starting March 31, 2000, at 9:00 a.m.. Monthly docent meetings were held on the second Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m. Speakers for the docent meetings included the following: SEPTEMBER 9: U. of U. Art History Professor Robert Olpin talked about Utah art as it relates to the Harvest Festival Exhibit in the Hanson Gallery. OCTOBER 14: Sam Wilson, U. ofU. Art Professor, discussed his paintings of the Stations of the Cross at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Helene Fairchild told of the Cathedral's history, architecture and symbolism. NOVEMBER 11: David Sucec, Utah artist, spoke regarding the Gilgal Garden, an unusual sculpture garden in downtown Salt Lake City. A tour of the Garden followed. DECEMBER 9: Before the Holiday Luncheon, docents toured the St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Emmaruth Keyser. FEBRUARY 10: Ruth Kerr discussed and guided docents through the Museum's Mesoamerican collection. MARCH 9: Marty Seiner, Professor of Art History at Westminster College, presented a program based on the Museum's Italian collection, entitled "Reflections on the Italian Collection: A Tapestry of 14th to 18th Century Artistic and Cultural Life." APRIL 13: Several docents offered their Gallery Talks, presented on previous Sundays in the Museum. Judy Waters spoke about Corot; Doug Waters discussed "Young Man Wearing a Helmet;" Pat Faulkener talked about Natacha Rambova; Pam Parrot reviewed her talk on the Images of Buddha. MAY 4: The Spring Outing tooJ( the place of a regular docent meeting. The group traveled to the BYU Museum of Art to view the Mahonri Young Exhibition, an exhibit of Realism and the glass masterpieces of Dale Chihuly. |
