Show ( NEW PROGRAMS INTRODUCED THIS YEAR THE FIRST UMFA FAMILY GALA AND PICNIC: This event was held July 18, 1998 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Anne Dolowitz and Elaine Call were in charge of the Membership/Docent table, assisting with memberships and giving information on docent recruitment. Virginia Catherall, Marjorie Powis and Ann Stewart helped with the fish and veggie printing. Pam Parrot and Heather Riggs worked with Model Magic sculptures. Elodie Payne worked with Mary Ann Webster in presenting a still-life demonstration and workshop. Fonner docent Betsy Quintana gave a pottery demonstration. Other docents participating were Pat Faulkner and Cherry Wong. In connection with the picnic theme, a special exhibit of "delectable food" was shown in the Hansen Gallery. ARTFUL AFTERNOON: The Family Event, "Winter Celebrations," held on December 19th, was a resounding success in spite of the snow dumped upon us. Between 400 to 500 people crowded into the museum and enjoyed the performances and hands-on activities coordinated by Ann Parker. Helping were Karin Brown, Elaine Call (who did a "twofer" by bringing her grandchildren), Anne Dolowitz, Bizzie Drinkaus, Pat Faulkner, Yoko Kamaya (who led the workshop in calligraphy), Ruth Kerr, Carol Medworth, Ettalue Nelson, Pam Parrot, Elodie Payne, Billie Rich, Marge Wilson, Cherry Wong, Mary-Kate Wynkoop, Jean Moseley, Jeri Holmes and Pam Weilenmann. Also seen enjoying the festivities, surrounded by children and grandchildren, were Golda and Gordon Olsen, June Orme and Gay Lyn Sylvies. THIRD SATURDAY EVENTS: On the third Saturday of each month an art activity was planned for the whole family in the galleries. This project was coordinated by Ann Parker. Themes and dates were as follows: Celebrate mask-making from Africa, Peru and New Guinea. Create a colorful mask to wear. November 22, 1998 Pastel Still-Lifes - Create a "horn of plenty" January 16, 1999 Future Famous People Self-Portraits. Celebrate Human Rights Day by viewing portraits of famous people and create a self. portrait. February 20, 1999 Miniature (jewelry) Masks. March 20, 1999 Mosaics (Roman mosaic seen as an example) April 17, 1999 Frames (t~ose "thingees" holding up many of our paintings) May 15, 1999 Mini-genre Scenes (Example, the Breughel) October 17, 1998 DOCENT CURATED EXHIBIT: To compliment the Winter Celebrations family event and the UMFA/Salt Lake City 4t11 Grade Winter PARTners Program, the docents coordinated an exhibit highlighting winter celebrations of many cultural communities along the Wasatch Front. An opening reception was held on December 6, 1998 and the exhibit was shown through April 1, 1999. Cultures highlighted were: Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year, Christmas, Greek New Year, |
