Show 71 We would be very happy to furnish you the information requested, but we can see no possible way to provide it in the detail you desire in such a short period of time. This is the busiest month of the year at the University. The Secretary's Office is charged with the responsibility of checking the rec- ords of all students who will be graduated in June and of prew paring all certificates and diplomas that will be issued to them. Also, this is the time when the contracts with the Veterans' Administration and other agencies must be renegotiated and budgets set up for the year ahead. Then, on top of everything else, there is the, work of closing out the regular accounts for the current biennium. The personnel sufficiently familiar with our records to gather the information you request are the very ones who are carrying these heavy seasonal assignments. We are wondering if most of the information you desire is not now on file in the offices of the State Finance Commission. The University's budgeted work programs, after ap- proval by the governor and Board of Examiners, are deposited in the Commission's office. All our payrolls are cleared through this office excepting those for restricted accounts; auxiliary operations, and student affairs. These last-mentioned activities are self-supporting and contribute to, rather than draw from, state appropriations. Incidentally, in this connection, we are just now fur- nishing the Finance Commission, at its request, the names of all members of our staff who are paid more than $375 per month and the amount they receive, which information to- gether with that already on record in their files may be adequate for your needs. If it is not, we repeat that we shall be pleased to furnish that which is lacking as soon as the Secretary's Office can be relieved from the mass of details associated with the regular Commencement program. You are undoubtedly familiar with the financial reports which we issue annually or biennially: (1) the Finan- cial Report of the Secretary and Controller, and (2) the President‘s Report. For your convenience, we are enclosing an additional copy of th.e,last issues of these reports, both of which have appeared in booklet form within the current fiscal year. Very sincerely yours, President ARO:cw Chairman, Board of Regents |
