LETTER OF APPRECIATION FROM YMMIA The President reported receipt of a letter from the OfflClaIS of the YMMIA acknowledging the use of University facilities for the MIA conference held last month in Salt Lake City. The President reported on the assignment to the Fac- PROGRESS REPORT ON FACULTY COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENT CONCERNING SCHOLARSHIP TO MR. HARLINE R. V. CHAMBERLIN RE. APPOINTED ulty Committee (Board meeting June 10) concerning the Park Scholarship request from Mr. Osmond Harline, He stated that it had been impossible to get the committee together for a meeting, but he had written to Mr. Harline re- porting the action taken by thegBoard at the June meeting, when the matter was assigned to the Faculty Committee of the Board. . The President assured the Regents he would make a further attempt to call a meeting of the Committee. Following a request by the President for the continued employment of Prof. R. V. Chamberlin for another year at half salary, in order that he may complete his History of the University of Utah and also continue the precepting of students FOR ANOTHER , for their doctorates (for which there is no other person avail- YEAR able)! Regent Ballif moved approval of the President's recom- mendation which was seconded by Regent Romney and carried. LUNCHEON TO HONOR JACK CURTICE , ,JULY 19 AT HOTEL UTAH Announcement was made of a luncheon to be given on July 19, 1950, at the Hotel Utah to honor and welcome Mr. Jack Curtice, newly-appointed Athletic Director. This event is being sponsored by the Athletic Board in coopera- tion with the Chamber of Commerce, the "U" Men's Club, and the Bleacher Athletes, Inc. The public has been invited and a large attendance is anticipated. A letter has been received by President Olpin from JUDGE HAROLD Judge Harold Stephens of the United States Court of Appeals, acknowledging the honor which came to him when he was aSTEPHENS TURNS OVER warded an honorary degree at the June Commencement. CHECK COVER- Judge Stephens also gave the Commencement Address and, ING HONORARI- as is the usual custom, received an honorarium which, in UM FOR this case, was $300. Judge Stephens has graciously declined DELIVERING acceptance of this honorarium, endorsed and returned the COMMENCEMENT check which the President sent him, making it payable to the ADDRESS TO Alumni Development Fund as a gift from Judge and Mrs. ALUMNI DEVEL- Harold Stephens. In acknowledging this gesture by Judge OPMENT FUND Stephens and his wife, the President assured the Judge of the administration's appreciation for his willingness to serve Without remuneration and for his interest in the University's welfare. |
