STUDY TO BE MADE OF SALARY SCHEDULES Regent O'Connor felt that in view of the rising cost of 11v1ng that a study be made of the salaries being paidemploy- ees of the institution - particularly those receiving $225. 00 per month or less - and that it be ascertained what funds would .be required to grant a cost of living increase to the afore- mentioned group. The President felt that the academic staff was equally in need of help, but the Regents felt the pinch was hardest on the low-salaried individuals. It was requested that the President report his findings to the Board at its next meeting. The President reported that the Governor has appointed a State committee on Fullbright Scholarships as follows: Dr. Henry Aldous Dixon Mr. Frederick P. Champ ‘ Mr. Bryant S. Hinckley vDr. Spencer Wright Mr. Joseph I. Nichols Ogden Logan Salt Lake City Salt Lake City Salt Lake City Dr. A. L. Beeley has been chairman of the Fullbright Scholar- ship Committee at the University for the past two years. It will be noted that the appointees do not provide for senior col- lege representation, although only graduates of four-year schools are eligible. At the present time, there are three participants of this scholarship fund from the University. A letter written by Governor Lee dated August 29, 1950, to Chairman Sill was reported, which suggested the desirability of the University offering the U. S. Public Health Service a site for a communicable disease center. The administration has been working with the government representatives on this plan for the past two years with the idea of integrating the program into the enlarged medical school program, and the Re- gents are on record as actually having offered a site.
