Show 700 Luncheon in Room 305 Union Building preceded the meeting. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF APRIL 9, 1951 On motion of Regent Browning, duly seconded and carried, the minutes of the meeting of April 9, were approved, following Regent Browning's request that he be recorded as opposed to the procedure followed in the appointment of Dru 1, Owen Horsfall as managing director of the art gallery: PRESIDENT'S REPORT: ART GALLERY FORMALLY OPENED The President's report followed: President Olpin reported that the Hudnut Gallery was for- mally ppened on Sunday, May 6, 1951, with appropriate ceremonies at which Mrso Hudnut presented her art treasures to the UniI versity of Utah and that he, as President, accepted them on behalf of the Institution; Donations from citizens interested in fostering and promoting fine arts are continually coming in. The project is receiving enthusiastic support as is evidenced by requests being made of the President for exhibit space in the gallery. President Olpin also reported that he had learned of a sizeable gift to be made to this project, , President Olpin read the following letter from Mr, George M. Gadsby: 3 George M. Ray Olpin, President University of Utah Salt Lake City, Utah Dear Ray: The reception fOr Mrs. Hudnut yesterday afternoon was a delightful occasionand I am sure one which she thor: oughly enjoyed. _Y0ur talk, explaining some of the things which have occurred during the past three years leading up to the development of the art gallery and reception of Mrs. Hudnut'sl collection, was splendid" Both Mrs. Gadsby and I enjoyed and appreciated the attention shown us and are quite proud to be connected with this undertaking. The enclosed letter from Judge Crockett, Chairman of the Utah State Institute of Fine Arts, was received this morning and I presume the check for $450., 00 will be mailed direct to the University.
