In addition, our faculty is a small one, and the teach- ing program is carried by a relatively few men. The sug- gested change would ease this burden considerably and would no doubt result in a greater vigor in their teaching, as well as in their research productivity, It is estimated that the deceleration would result in the loss of approximately $45, 000 in tuition fees over the three-year transition period. We believe that we will be able to meet this decrease in income through adjustments within our budget, I would like to request that this recommended action be approved by the University administration and the Board of Regents, Sincerely yours, JZB;fs John Z. The second year medical students are protesting this plan to change the College of Medicine from a three-year four-quarter program to a four-year three-quarter program, as it applies to their class, pointing out that by attending school next summer they could graduate from six months to a year earlier than under the proposed plan. It was the con- sensus that this group of students should have some consideration, particularly as they have made all of their plans in conformity with the three-year program, Many of these students are GIs, many with families, which presents economic and personal problems, and an interruption at this stage of their training would be a serious matter to them, It was contended that these students had not been notified when they began their work that such a change might be made, consequently a moral, if not a legal obligation, exists on the part of the administration to furnish the training as outlined in the catalogue, Summarizing the discussion, it was the consensus of the Board that the President, the Dean of the College of Medicine, |
