| Abstract |
This collection contains bound volumes of minutes of the Board of Regents meetings, including accompanying materials, such as contracts, correspondence, meeting minutes of subordinate committees, and faculty newsletters. The Board of Regents historically served as the governing body of the University of Utah. In 1969 the name was changed to the Institutional Council (the State Board of Higher Education later adopted the name of State Board of Regents). In 1991 the Institutional Council became the current Board of Trustees. |

GEORGE THOMAS Subsequent to the construction of the Library Building LIBRARY and pursuant to action taken by the Board at its meeting of PLAQUE TO November 10, 1933, as follows: BE PLACED "That in recognition of the splendid service rendered the University of Utah by President George Thomas. during his presidency the New Library about to be erected on the Uni- versity Campus be named in his honor- THE GEORGE THOMAS LIBRARY " a plaque had been made. However, this plaque was'never placed inasmuch as the Library had been constructed under the Public Works Administration plan, and a government reg- ulation provided that buildings so constructed could not be named after living persons. The plaque in question, which was on display in the Board Room, has been stored in the University vault since that time. This restriction has now been removed since the death of Dr. Thomas on April 11, 1951, and it, therefore, seemed appropriated at this time to take action on this matter. ' A discussion followed, after which Regent Ballif moved that the Board now approve the action taken by the Board of Regents at that time (November 10, 1933) and readopt at this time the resolution of that Board. Regent Browning seconded the motion which carried. The follgwing was called to the Board's attention: REGENT ADAM S. BENNION TO FILL ASSIGNMENTS REQUESTED BY UTAH CONFER- ENCE ON HIGHER EDUCATION Preparation for Board of Regents participation in Utah Conference on Higher Education at Cedar City, Septmeber 4 and 5. A. Appointment of representative by the Board of Regents to act as chairman of representatives of the governing boards of the higher institutions in Utah to organize a section of Regents and Trustees for the Conference. B. Special request from the Faculty Personnel Committee of the Conference on Higher Education to appoint one of its members to discuss "The roll of the faculty |
