Bennion, Regent Culp voting "no" on the salary of the summer-school appointee: APPOINTMENTS APPROVED Summer School Appointment; Alice Kent, VisitingAssociate Professor, Department of Speech, June 18, 1951, to July 30, 1951 -- $1,000. M. A. , Northwestern University. Professional Experience:. Hawaii School for Deaf, University of South Carolina, Clarke School for Deaf. The President reported the death of Prof. Arthur Freber of the Music Department on March 22, 1951, paying a tribute to him for his outstanding services to the University and the DEATH OF community as a Whole. A request was made that the summer PROFESSOR quarter of 1950 be granted Prof. Freber as a sabbatical leave, ARTHUR in line with the same procedure followed in Prof. William Pe- FREBER terson's case reported at the March meeting. Motion to approve was made by Regent Culp, seconded by Regent Adam S. Bennion, and carried. The 1951-52 budget was brought up for consideration. The President reported that the faculty, at a meeting held on March 29, had proposed to forego receipt of contracts for the next fiscal year until the University budget had been approved by the legislature. The special session of the State legislature has, since that meeting, been tentatively set for June 4. The President feels that, by reducing personnel and limiting the purchase of supplies and equipment, -a 10% increase in salaries can be worked out should the Un1versity be reappropriated the $5, 149, 000, the amount provided by the legislature but vetoed by the Governor. 1951-52 BUDGET MATTERS TO BE DISCUSSED AT MAY MEETING |
