Show 3381 Nims- D 1406 A We started to walk; we left the river at about five o'clock, I think, in the morning, and we started our climb, and part way up a terrific thunderstorm came up, and we found shelter under an overhanging cliff; the thunderstorm lasted come half or three- quarters of an hour; then we continued on up and got on top at 1: 15 or 1; 30, then had lunch and a rest; then we knew we were in what is called Houserock valley, before we come to t he Buckskin mountain -- Kaibab mountain, and we knew that this Houserock, as they called it -- they had a post office -- was ahead of us up that valley, so we started to walk. And about five o'clock in the afternoon McDonald saw moving object off to the left some distance, and he said -- Stanton said it was cattle, and McDonald said no, he says, " That is people.' He says, " I have hunted too long not to know the difference." And Stanton said, " Then we will turn and go over there sand see what it is; if it is cattle, we can camp there as well as ahead of us; if is people, we may get assistance." So we went over there, and we found there was a man and his by had taken up a homestead there, and was building a cabin. We asked him how far it was to Houserock. He said twenty miles. |
