Q I am not asking you for a description of anything; I am asking you as to the location of the place or stretch where, in your opinion, to up stream navigation would have occurred. A Some of the rapids near the initial point, near North wash, were the worst local difficulties for up stream navigation. Q How far below North wash was this worst place? A I am under the impression that the worst rapid we encountered was at mile 156 1/ 2, but that may not have been the one. Q Well, how, you, in designating that as the worst place, I think you used some further descriptive phrase, saying -- what did you say -- local difficulty, or something to that effect? What was the language you used? I don't recall. ( The stenographer read the preceding question as follows;) " A. Q Now, when you say that the " worst local difficulties" were there, do you mean that was the worst place, in your opinion, for up stream navigation, or isn't that what you mean? A Well, I mean that was the point at which there were some short pieces of river that would have been more difficult to get |
