Show 3329 Aurand- D 1354 We had sandbars that we encountered at eleven places on the Green river. If you wish, I can give those. Q Yes, let's have those. A 2, 4, 14, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25, 27, 30, and 31. At about mile post 18 1/ 2 we encountered such swift water that it took us approximately an hour and forty- five minutes to go up stream a distance of half a mile; and again at 19 1/ 2, mile post 19 1/ 2 we encountered a very high stream velocity, so we had a hard time, it was specially so because of the fact that we were forced in against the cliff, and had to go back down stream and fight up the stream again; no chance of towing or operating in any way, although we had two poles on the boat which were twenty feet long. Q In either the Colorado or Green river was it necessary for somebody to go overboard and push? A No, the waters were too cold; they were full of flow ice the whole time. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q On the Green river did you make contemporaneous notes on these points? A I followed the geology and everything clear up to Mile post 34. Q And you have given us the whole of the points that you found trouble? A Those are the points at which we found that. |
