Show 3294 Dobbin- D 1319 A That is the only Reeside in geology; must be the same gentleman. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Just tell me about your progress on that trip down the river. A Our purpose in going down the river was to examine the rock section and consequently we were in no hurry; to make mileage was the least thing we desired, so to speak. We started out from the dock at Moab, and the first day we camped in the vicinity of the Kane creek well, the Shafer Oil and Gas, the first one on the river; I think that is about eighteen miles south of Moab by the river. Q Did you have any difficulty with sand bars in that stretch? A When just below the Moab dock, where the river takes a turn, we had trouble there, both going down and coming up. We had difficulty going down the river where the stretches of the river were straight. On the bends we had no difficulty, but we were grounded off and on all the time, clear from where we started down to the junction of the rivers. In coming back, we were able to go over some of the stretches where we got grounded when we went down, indicating that there were shifting sands in the river bottom. Q On your way down did you carry a map? A We had a river map; I think I saw one this morning; I think this is the map here ( indicating). |
