Show 3393 Nims- D 1418 Q The united States Mining -- A Yes sir. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q There was a post office at Lee's Ferry at that time? A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q And from point where you staked out that placer mine, on down to Lees Ferry, did you have any difficulty? A Yes, we had difficulty with sand, mostly sand. Q That is, what do you mean? A Grating the sand; and when strong, high winds would come up the canyon, the water would make high waves, and you dip your hand in it, let the water run off, the palm of your hand would be all sandy; the wind made the water rough, and made swirls -- whirlpools. Q Between Crescent creek and Lees Ferry did you encounter any rapids or riffles? A Yes, quite a number of them, but nothing to do any damage. Q You ran them all? A Yes, we ran them all. Q Did you ever attempt to take a boat up stream? A No sir. Q In your opinion, as you saw the water in Glen canyon down to Lees Ferry on either one of these trips, could you have taken a boat up stream? |
