Show 3307 Dobbin- C 1332 Q What was the draft of the boat loaded with what you were carrying, and when you and Mr. Reeside were in it? A Of course, I never measured it, but I would estimate two feet. MR. BLACKMAR: As a matter of information, that is the same boat that Mr. Hoyt used, and Colone l Dent used. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Did you, with your lack of experience on the river, feel that you were able to tell where the channel was? A No, I couldn't tell where the channel was. Q There was nothing that enabled you to locate the channel? A Not in the straight stretches. Q So that in the straight stretches you simply went downstream? A That is just about it, with Reeside with an oar at the front, sounding, and in spite of that we grounded. Q I think you stated that at the curves you had no trouble? A Had no trouble; we were inside. Q On your direct examination you stated that coming up stream you had no difficulty at certain places where you had had difficulty going downstream. A Yes sir. Q Have you had any experience with motor boats on other streams? A No sir; on the ocean only. Q This is your first experience with a motor boat on any stream? |
