Q Why did you ship your supplies and boats overland down to Crescent creek? A Because we didn't want a second dose of Cataract canyon, and to save time. Q Just describe your trip from Crescent creek, the mouth of Crescent creek, on down to Lees Ferry. A We arrived at Crescent creek on December 6th, and left there on December 10th; we stopped at Tickaboo rapids; at Trachyte one of the boats sprung a little leak, it didn't amount to anything, but we camped can fixed it. Then we stopped where Hite was living, at his placer mine, there, a day, then started down the river a little ways, and we had some trouble with gravel bars, a little more than we had the first time, because the water was lower. And we stopped at Smith Brothers ranch there in the canyon, and there was no one at home. Q Were there any placer miners at work in the canyon? A Yes.
