Show 3372 Nims- D 1397 MR. BLACKMAR: The first trip. Q Between Greenriver, Utah, and the mouth of the San Rafael did your boats encounter any rapids or other difficulty? A Both rapids and gravel beds, bars. Q And what was the effect on your boats? A My boat in the rapids stuck on a rock, and knocked two holes in it, the boat I was in. Q Are you able to identify where that riffle was? A About two miles below Greenriver, where we started. Q That is the place shown in Exhibit 147? A Yes, that is the one. We waded to shore with the boat, towed it. Q What does Exhibit 148 show? A That shows us before we got to the shore with the boat. Q Did you encounter any other difficulty between there and the mouth of the San Rafael? A No other difficulty, no; nothing more than our cars sometimes would strike gravel, showed it was shallow water there. Q Between the mouth of the San Rafael and the end of Labyrinth canyon did you have any difficulties on the first trip with navigation or operation of the boats? A Yes. We met some rapids, but didn't damage the boats any, except to spring some seams, making them leak; and would run on to a sandbar once in a while, we would jump out and pull it off, and go on. |
