Show 3304 Dobbin- C 1329 Q Did you do any sounding in the boat? A Except with an oar; Reeside stood up -- Q Then the sounding you did do was merely accidental, wasn't it, such as you would -- MR. FARNSWORTH: I will withdraw that; that probably is not true. Q When would you sound with the oar? A On the straight stretches where experience a little further up showed us the water was liable to be shallow. Q Did you keep your motor going as you proceeded down the river? A Except when we grounded; we stopped it when we grounded. Q Did you keep your motor going at other times? A Yes. Q Didn't you aim to go slowly, so you could have ample time to look at the formations that you were passing on either side? A You see, the rocks are so similar there, so horizontal, one can pass several miles of the river and still see the same rocks. So we would stop at places where there was a good landing, and measure the section there, or collect fossils, and that would serve for several miles down the river. Q With what frequency did you get out of the boat -- out of the river in order to collect fossils or make a close inspection of the geology on either side of the river? |
