Show 3232 Dent- D 1257 settled down to running, the boat man, Bert Loper, kept a look- out in front indicating where the boat ought to go, or in case of necessity he took the oars. Mr. Ryan, who was with me, ran the motor and steered where Loper indicated, and I spent a large part of my time balling. There was a good deal of rain, and in addition to that we were pretty wet most of the time, asking the keeping of systematic notes rather difficult, and the conditions were such that a general statement was all that appeared to me to be necessary. Q Well, now, just describe the character of the river in there as you saw it, and the progress, and so forth.. A Well, we started, as I said, at mile 167 1/ 2, I believe. At mile 164 I have a notation of 2 foot depth. I have another notation of swift water at spots. I am now on sheet 11 At Hite, which is mile 162 1/ 2, I note a gravel bar. At mile 160 to 161 I note rapids. At mile 159 1/ 2 I note rapids. At mile 158 3/ 4 I note rapids. At mile 158 I note rapids. and I make a further note that a bar, visible bar alongside of there was covered with boulders. These were rounded boulders from gravel size up to perhaps two or three feet in diameter. |
