Show 3196 Dent- D 1222 to the left follows quite close to the right bank, but as soon as it encounters a straight reach of the river, it may begin to spill over this bar towards the left bank, and if you have a straight reach of any considerable length, the bulk of water at the lower end of that reach may be on he left- hand wide of the river instead of on the right, where it started out. This bar would ordinarily be built up during any freshet. It would occupy the same general position each year, but its form may be entirely different from year to year. As the volume of flow crosses from the right bank to the left, it it crosses in a concentrated stream, it will dig out a fairly deep channel, a channel comparable to what you find at other points on the river. If, on the other hand, it spills over gradually, there is no assurance that there will be any water anywhere cross such a bar. Another case in when the up stream deep channel cuts off quite shortly. In other words, shortly after leaving the right bank, -- shortly after leaving the curve which is curving to the left, the deep water may terminate and the river may out across to the opposite or left bank. Still other cases, the channel from the lower bend which is curving to the right, the channel following the |
