Perhaps they have made the necessary changes. Perhaps I am the last to suffer so. I do not want to be a litigious person and after all is said and done I will need all my strength to heal the dura. I will need all my strength to somehow survive until that unlikely day. The nurse who comes into the room some time after he has left carries in her hand one tool that will help me survive: a bag containing the mixed solution of Versed and whatever else is needed, to be hung from the IV pole. There, it will drip away my memory, my life, drop by relentless drop. She hangs it on the pole but assures me she will wait to begin the drip until my body begins to curl. It will give me time to say good-bye. |
