Show 154 "The doctors are getting ready to do the Baclofen spinal puncture again," I am telling her, but she has put her hand up. My speech is slow and difficult and I am grateful she has stopped any unnecessary explanations. Even though my symptoms have never indicated otherwise at surgery, it seems they still want to confirm that the catheter is not functioning. "I've already spoken with Dr. Jessop," she begins and I am trying to read her face to determine the outcome of that improbable conversation. "He has agreed to learn the protocol. I will walk him through it." She is smiling. "How...?" I am wanting to know how she managed to do this. "He's relied on Victor for learning all this and is now blaming him for not doing it right." I am not caring who is at fault and who is not. I am only wanting the correct protocol to be followed. The protocol is the least invasive means of determining if the catheter is patent. Periodically punching holes in the dura, the lining covering my spinal cord, is invasive and risky and painful. "We're going to do the protocol in about 30 minutes. Can you handle that?" Can I handle that? I am ecstatic. I will have to contain my glee. |
