Show 236 tossed like our own personal fire hydrants. We were all soaked, this time from each other and not from an angry storm. We all raced our canoes to the "finish line." I was proud to be the winner and first to arrive at our final destination. After we unloaded, but before we said our goodbyes we "circled up." "Think of your favorite part of the trip and something you are proud about," Allen, the SPLORE leader said. I listened as everyone took their turn, and then it was my turn. "My favorite part of the trip was the first day." I was shocked at my own response. The first day was the hardest of them all. I continued, "It was my favorite because I learned that once I set my mind to something, anything, I can achieve it, no matter how difficult it might be." I stopped and thought of something else. "That day was also one of my favorites because I got to see my mom do something that I never in a million years thought I would see her do. If you would have asked me even that morning if mom was capable of canoeing through that type of weather I would have said no. But she did it and we were all there to witness it. We all did it. That is also what I am most proud of." I paused, "My second favorite part was playing cards on Rex because - well, it was funny. We were all together as a family having fun and enjoying each other's company." |
