Show 37 Red Omelet Evan has grabbed the handles of my wheelchair and is pushing me up the hallway. He seems happy. Excited. "What's up?" I ask, trying to see why this recreational therapist should be so happy to be taking me somewhere. It isn't like I can really participate in any major exercise or activity yet. "You'll see," he is saying, enigmatically. We go through the rec room and he bumps my wheelchair over the threshold and through the doors leading into the courtyard. There are trees and flowers and a bit of lawn in this courtyard and it is private. - I There is a large poster board propped up onto the wall, close to the ground. Red, blue and yellow capped marker pens lay on the dirt at its base. Evan positions my wheelchair in front of the empty poster. "OK," he starts, grinning at me like a kid who's just found out he's made the team. "Tell me some things you hate about this whole thing." He is gesturing towards my wheelchair with his hand but his meaning encompasses much more. |
