Show 164 "You would call the company in something less than two weeks and find out if we can use their newest catheter," I am continuing. She is not interrupting. "You would listen to me and to my opinions and ideas and we would have a dialogue about my care." I stop. There is much, much more but I cannot think clearly. There is a very long pause. I despair filling it with anything else. I have said all I know how to say. "How would you get down here?" she is asking and I know I am leaving this place this very day. "Hy will come get me." "I would have to admit you to the main hospital, you know," she is saying, telling me that I could not go to my small hometown hospital with this rare disease and its potentially life-threatening treatments. "I know. That's OK," I respond. We agree that I will be admitted as soon as Hy can get me there. |
