Show 287 But I am off track, I am saying to myself. I am trying to put these things together. Is something wrong with my thinking as well? I am listing my symptoms: stiff neck, bad headache, eyes sensitive to light. It does not seem like a promising list. "Is it too late to call Dr. Emerson at his office?" I am asking Hy. He picks up the phone and dials for me. We both know the number by heart. When the receptionist answers, he hands me the telephone. I explain my symptoms to her and she tells me she will relay them to Dr. Emerson, who, if he is concerned, will call me back. The telephone is ringing five minutes later. We are to meet him at the emergency room as soon as possible. Dr. Emerson is trying to bend my head down but it will not go and his trying pulls on something tender down the middle of my back. He is flashing his penlight in my eyes, apologizing, understanding my pain. |
