Show 234 plans. I walked over to the makeshift kitchen and dug my hands into the kitchen work, chopping and slicing and joining the conversation. I woke to the pitter-patter of rain on my tent. Another eventful day was ahead of us, but this time I had some experience and was ready to battle the river. Once again everyone helped load up and we were off. Again the wind and rain were a deadly combination, but we were all a bit more experienced than the day before, so we all seemed to take the storm as a personal challenge. Paddling seemed to be easier; I didn't have to think about it as much anymore. And I seemed to figure out a way to adjust my poncho so I could see through the wind and rain. Though the circumstances and weather were exactly the same as the day before, we all seemed to be doing much better at this canoeing thing. We conquered the second day's weather with no flips, no complaints, and no injuries. After camp was set up and dinner had been eaten we all sat around to play some cards. Our orange, golden-retriever Rex lay very still as each person drew their card from atop of him, he becoming our affable temporary "table." "I won!" my sister announced. Some sighs came from the rest of us who had just lost to the youngest sibling. But as we all looked around at each other we could not help but combust with laughter; what a sight we must be... sitting around in the pouring rain, bright yellow and blue |
