Show 120 "Yes! She's coming around," Dr. Jessop is saying. He is regarding one of the more quiet interns. "Nice work," Dr. Jessop is telling him. "What happened?" I am asking and all eyes are quickly turned on me, expectantly. They are smiling eyes. I am a problem they have resolved favorably. There is a quiet murmuring as they begin to file out of the room and it is soon only Dr. Jessop, the nurse taking my vital signs, and me. "We think it's the injected Valium," he is saying. The Valium injections relieve the major whole-body muscle spasms. "You've gotten so many of them that we're now probably injecting into old scarring from previous injections." He is regarding the color of my fingernails, pinching them down and releasing them, as he is speaking. "We think the scar tissue has held back at least a portion of the Valium, in pockets, and then.released it when you're not in major spasm, when you don't need it." He has stopped his examination of my fingernails and is looking into my eyes instead. "This was an overdose of Valium. Unintentional, of course." I am not quite comprehending his rapid speech but getting the idea, nonetheless. "We gave you the antidote to Valium and here you are again!" He is relieved that I am here again. I am relieved as well. |
