Show 125 "That's really neat." Thayne is admiring the bear painting, but I am continuing on with a second representation. It is a favorite mammal, an orca. The killer whale. Willie. Free Willie. Free Me. The paintings are in twin colors and when they are dry, I ask Thayne to please tape them to the back of the door. She does so with surgical tape. They go well there, next to each other, the__ whale forever breeching out of the sea at will, the polar bear forever striding the ice, owning it. They are the bookends of my strength. My totems against bad medicine. Thayne takes my vitals, turns down the lights and leaves the room. I can still see them, my two magnificent creatures, shining in the dim light on the back of my door. Protecting me. Singing me. Being me when I cannot be me. I sleep soundly all the night through. ik |
