Show 235 ponchos on, huddled around our dead-looking dog upon whom we were playing cards. It struck me that we were having the time of our lives. It was our final day on the river. As we loaded up our canoes, the weather did not look promising for anything different from the past few days. It was fine with me. I had become a pro at the whole wind and rain thing. And I know my family did not mind either. Looking around at all the SPLORE employees who seemed to feel much more like family now than anything else, I was overcome with sadness. I knew this would be our last day on the river together. But I was not going to let that get me down; I was going to have an amazing final day and that was that. As the rain fell I saw a beam of light shine through the clouds. Twenty minutes later and there was not a single cloud in the sky. The river was a peaceful and calm; it was a mirror, reflecting back all the green beauty I had somehow missed the days before. The sun was blistering hot and the sky was a brilliant blue; as I sat soaking in the rays of the sun I felt a harsh coldness hit my back and spread up to my head and down to my legs and feet. I looked behind me just in time to see my dad throwing another bucket of river water at me. Just as I dodged the second bucket my mom noiselessly paddled up behind my dad and gave him a cold surprise. It was soon every man, woman and child for themselves. Buckets of water were being |
