Show 370 "Just you wait and see," I am telling her. She is regarding me from afar. She is putting down my paper and pencil. It is just as well. I do not want to finish the list. I have too much to do before I die. She is sitting back in the chair, looking at her hands. "I can get into the wilderness with a canoe," I respond. "Even with my wheelchair." I am remembering our trip down the red canyon. I do not know what to say. She is telling me how it is just taking up room in her garage and how no one in her family ever uses it and how she is hoping I will take it. For some reason, I have butterflies as I nod that, yes, I would be honored to take it off her hands but that, no, I do not believe for a minute that they never use it. "I'm serious," she is assuring me, "we never use it. I want you to have it." She has gone now to telephone Hy, telling him of my list and her answer to one thing on my list. They will arrange how the canoe is to get to my house before I do. I am picking up the list, look- |
