Show Forward This is a true story. Some people surrounding this story, however, may or may not be entirely accurately portrayed for various reasons - for privacy and more concise writing, to name but a few. "Faith," for example, is a compilation of five actual people and is named after none of them. But "Evan," whose name has been changed for his privacy, participated in the event as recorded, and as I remember it. The order of events is also generally as I remember, though some incidents might be out of chronological order either intentionally, for reasons of clarity for example, or unintentionally because, not remembering clearly the exact order, I have written it as I have assumed it has happened. This book is not written to accuse anyone. I firmly believe that virtually every person who participated in my care did so in hopes of helping me, no matter the actual result. Most medical professionals did help me. In spite of the fact that there were mistakes made and sometimes human foibles that precluded the best possible medical care, some of the same people responsible for the medical errors also accomplished important and sometimes life-saving tasks that allowed me to live long enough to receive either the necessary corrections to those errors or other more innovative treatment. |
