Show 168 "That was impressive," Dr. Howard is saying. "I'm sorry. I won't pull on you any more. I've just never seen this disease before." Whatever skepticism he may have had is evidently gone. He is smiling as he sits to speak with us. "Dr. Chappie told me you need a new, stronger catheter." He is pausing, looking me in the eye but also including Hy in this dialogue. I realize I am expected to contribute something in this silence. "Yes," I am managing to say. "I understand the company has just developed something more heavy-duty." "Yeah," he is saying, stretching his arms over his head and yawning. I am half wondering if he will lean back in his chair and put his Nike running shoes up on the edge of the bed. He settles his hands down into his pockets. "I've been putting them in for awhile now." "Can you get ahold of one?" Hy is asking. It is my question as well. It seemed an impossible task at the other hospital. He is nodding his head. "I think we might even have one downstairs," he is saying. "That's not the problem," he adds and I am wondering what the problem is but delay the question. I am still not comfortable directly stating what is on my mind with a doctor. Hy is more brave than I. |
