When writing my paper on the birds of the Galapagos Islands, I overlooked the record of the occurrence of this bird on the mainland, Fraser having obtained a specimen at Esmeraldas in 1859 (P. Z. S. I860, p. 291). W e have recently received specimens from the island of Puna ; and M M . Jelski and Stolzmann found it at Santa Lucia, in Western Peru (cf. P. Z. S. 1877, p. 744). 8. GEOTHLYPIS AURICULARIS, n. sp. Supra olivacea, cupite summo cinereo, fronte anguste, loris et regione suboculari nigris, regioneparotica saturate oleaginea; subtus late flava, subalaribus et campterio atari luteis ; rostri maxilla cornea, mandibula pallida, pedibus camels. Long, tota 4*5, ala 2*2, cauda 1*7, rostri a rictu 0*68, tarsi 0*8. o*. Callao, Peru, December 1881 (A. H. Markham). Obs. G. aquinoctiali proxima, sed colore oleagineo regionis paro-ticse distinguenda. Capt. Markham's collection contains a single male specimen of this species, which seems different from the closely allied forms, of which G. aquinoctialis is perhaps the best known. G. semifiava, which is its nearest neighbour, has the whole of the ear-coverts black and no grey on the head. G. chiriquensis has the grey head, but the ear-coverts are black. 9.
