Show Captain Chuck Larson VARSITY WRESTLING Utah's mat contingent, following a 23-10 victory over Utah State in the U gym in the first match of the season, gave promise of being about the strongest outfit in the 1932 race; but a 26-8 setback at the hands of Coach Aubert Cote's Cougars at Provo dispelled the thought for a moment. Coming back string in the division joust at Logan, Feb. 23, the Red-men came second only after two additional bouts were staged to break the deadlock. B. Y. U. with 29 points came first; Utah, 27, second; and the Aggies grabbed third place with 20 counters, leaving the Bobcats but 8. Handicapped much by the loss of Captain Chuck Larson, the Utes, thanks to Coach Pete Couch's excellent juggling, had a really formidable team. Ashley Smith, captain-elect, of the lot was perhaps the most promising. This young Adonis won his every match. Chuck Larson, returning to the mat for his last collegiate show, decisioned Snell, B. Y. U. heavyweight; and Ralph Watson, 165, threw Yorgason, Y, in feature bouts of the division meet. Arnold Roylance, 155, blind grappler, won the plaudits of all by his plucky work in disposing of Paul Kellar in the Ute-Farmer meet. Tame, 135, in this same meet, electrified the crowd by decisioning an Aggie light-heavyweight, Forgeon. Dory Detton threw Park Kellar in the 135 division. Page Two Hundred Twenty-eight |
