Show SWIMMING Entering a well balanced aquatic team, R. 0. T. C. swished past the Coffee Cup team to usurp first place in die inter-club swimming meet. Delta Phi, with a good team, snatched third place, the Engineers, Barbs, and Pi Kaps finishing in the order named. Ralph Ottenheimer, Coffee Cup, won the 40 yard free style handily over Landenberger of Phi Delta Theta. The Pi Kappa Alpha relay team, composed of Buhner, Waddoups, and Woolley, had things pretty much its own way over the 60 yard route. Delta Phi placed second and R. 0. T. C. swam a good third. Delta Phi came back strong in the plunge to win with 268 points as against 237 for the tripod wielders-Engineers to you. The meet was staged in the Ute pool with a large crowd of spectators looking on. FREE THROW What Sigma Nu lacked on the basketball court, it made up for many times in its accurate foul pitching team composed of Jack Day, Dale Blomuist, Bill Foulger, and Owen Saunders. Among them, this quartet averaged a shade under 18 conversions out of 25 attempts. Kappa Sigma with Stringham, Melich, Gubler, and Rutledge, came second, and the Army, boasting such men as Erickson, Murphy, Kumpton and Crowe, was a close third. The best single performance in the tourney-20 goals-was chalked up jointly by Crowe of the Army and Reed Ellison of Pi Kappa Alpha. Mr. Robbins awarded points to the entrants as follows: Sigma Nu, 71; Kappa Sigma, 67; R. 0. T. C, 62; and Sigma Pi, 59. The tourney was held immediately after the round-robin hoop tourney late in the winter quarter. Page Two Hundred Thirty-jour |
