Show WE APPRECIATE IT Having progressed to a point where we begin to realize that the success of this annual has depended upon the friendly co-operation of those who have contributed to it, we take opportunity now to express our deepest gratitude for the debt we owe. The inadequacy of our means of expression is fully realized, for we cannot dismiss such an enormous obligation by a mere "thanks." However, we are sincere when we say "we appreciate all that has been done in aiding us in the production of The 1933 Utonian." First, we congratulate our staffs for the willingness they have expressed in the duties we have asked them to perform. Their work has been graciously given and well-done. We could not have asked for more. We express a deep appreciation to Stevens & Wallis, Inc. Their excellent workmanship in the printing, superior supervision and friendly advice has given the Utonian a finished quality that could not have been gained otherwise. To Sidney Olson, Gus Gowans, and Harris Weberg, of this firm, we express our deepest gratitude, for their assistance has been priceless. Mr. Olson has supervised the typography, layout and production of the entire book. It speaks for itself. Without his assistance the polish of the smooth, easily-read copy would have been nil. Mr. Gowans did the mounting of the pictures throughout the book and has willingly taken special care in the head size and uniformity of the photographs. Mr. Weberg developed the border design and designed the cover. The personal interest and friendly spirit of this firm has made it more than a pleasure to work with them. It is certain that the good will developed by the production of the Utonian will be a lasting asset to them. To Girard Meeks we are, indeed, appreciative for his expression of talent in the art work of this book. He has devoted much time and effort in the drawing of the paintings in the opening and division pages, and has produced results entirely different from the artwork of past Utonians. Peter S. Ecker, of the Ecker Studios, did the portrait photography, and his friendly co-operation and the efficient manner in which he has turned out the photographs has been gratifying. Mr. Ecker has proven himself a valuable friend in the production of this annual, as well, and we cannot appreciate his spirit of co-operation too much. Also we thank the Utah Photo Materials Company and the Superior Studio for their co-operation in the developing of the photography, particularly Mr. Earl Lyman for his friendly criticism and advice. Great thanks must also be given to the Burger-Baird Engraving Company and J. G. Bell for the splendid service, and high quality of the half-tones and process plates of this edition of the Utonian. We sincerely appreciate their efforts. Thanks, too, must be expressed to the Salt Lake Engraving Company who gave us splendid service in the last minute engravings. The Deseret News Bindery produced the cover. Their work has been thorough and exceedingly satisfactory. We are very grateful to the Utah Gas & Coke Company, Southeast Furniture Company, Din-woodey Furniture Company, and Sears Roebuck Company for their donations of the prizes given in the Utonian Sales Contest, and Miss Nelson of the library for allowing us to display these prizes during the contest. We are grateful, also, to the organizations who participated in this contest and enabled us to have a greater circulation. We express our thanks to the members of the Engineering School for their splendid support in the sales of The 1932 Utonian. We have devoted a section to them as appreciation for their co-operation. We owe a great obligation to Earl J. Glade, editor of the Utah Chronicle, for the willingness and support he has shown us in devoting freely many news articles for the publicity of the Utonian. We also thank other students of the University who contributed materially to the book and are not listed as staff members. Our obligation to the business men of Salt Lake City, Ogden, and neighboring communities, who advertised in the Utonian, is a very great one and we are conscious of the fact that they made the production of this book possible. We hope that they will enjoy the patronage of the students of the University of Utah. Finally, we wish to express our thanks to the students for their support and interest in the book. We have endeavored to produce this annual solely for them, and their confidence and co-operation has been indeed gratifying. Alden C. Goates, Editor-in-Chief, Frank W. Taylor, Business Manager.
